Why is the media creating controversy around Hydratis: “the anti-hangover that encourages consumers to drink”?

For some time now, Hydratis has been the subject of accusations in some media outlets, which present it as an "anti-hangover" product and which could therefore encourage alcohol consumption.

But why this controversy? What is the true purpose of our product? In this article, we respond to this media wave.

But then, what is Hydratis?

Created in 2020, in collaboration with scientific firms and healthcare professionals, Hydratis is a hydration solution in the form of effervescent tablets to dissolve in water.

The tablets are based on the principle of oral rehydration solutions (ORS) which have been around since the 1970s and are used all over the world.

Thanks to a very precise formula of carbohydrates and electrolytes, Hydratis promotes the transport of water molecules in the body for optimized hydration.

One tablet in 250 mL of water creates a hypotonic solution. This solution, having a lower osmolarity than blood, promotes faster and more efficient absorption of water into the body than water alone. In addition, electrolytes help regulate water balance in the body.

These lozenges are used by thousands of people:

- For daily well-being (75% of French people do not hydrate themselves sufficiently)
- In the practice of sport (in order to compensate for the loss of water and minerals and thus limit cramps and aches)
- During a trip (altitude and air conditioning promote water loss)
- For healthy skin (lack of water has harmful effects on the skin, altering its structure and functions).


Why is Hydratis used by consumers after alcohol consumption?

Hydratis is known to be used by some consumers after drinking alcohol. Being a diuretic , alcohol increases urine production, which can lead to dehydration of the body. It is estimated that after drinking four glasses of wine, the body can lose up to a liter of water. This dehydration can cause many unpleasant effects the next day.

Hydratis, as a hydration solution, is therefore sometimes used in this context even though the product was not designed with this in mind.

95% of our customers don't use it for this occasion - and we don't encourage alcohol abuse.

Indeed, according to a survey carried out on more than 43,000 customers, only 5% use Hydratis after consuming alcohol (survey carried out post-purchase since January 2024)

Not only is this a minority of our customers, but of these 5%, they indicate using it after a reasonable alcohol consumption; therefore far from the “hangover” controversy. Nevertheless, we take seriously the intentions of drifts that could make people think that it is a “miracle” solution against hangovers.

Ironically, today it is rather the media that are promoting this use. Our product is above all acclaimed for its moisturizing benefits as part of an active and balanced life.

Betaine citrate is also sometimes used after consumption without being considered an anti-hangover solution which would encourage this practice.

Hydratis does not neutralize the harmful effects of alcohol

However, it is essential to emphasize that Hydratis does not in any way neutralize the harmful effects of alcohol on health. Our product is absolutely not intended to encourage or facilitate alcohol abuse. Excessive alcohol consumption carries significant health risks, and our mission is above all to promote optimal hydration for well-being. As you will have understood, alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health and should be consumed in moderation.

Hydratis, a solution for everyone

Hydratis was developed following the following observation: 75% of French people do not hydrate themselves enough. Our products are now used by all types of consumers: people looking for better hydration but also seniors, Olympic athletes, firefighters, caregivers, etc.
