Most people think that "Nothing hydrates better than water". For you, is water always enough for good hydration ? Well, think again! If you think it is enough, let us prove to you that sometimes, it is not. Indeed, certain situations promote dehydration . This is characterized by a loss of water but also minerals. This is why the Hydratis team decided to conduct a study in collaboration with Swedish-Fit to explore the impact of our electrolyte tablets on the hydration and performance of athletes.

A scientific principle recognized by the largest institutions

Hydratis products are based on the formulations of Oral Rehydration Solutions, used in pharmacies for infants with acute diarrhea. Also, the Hydratis formula is based on the recommendations of the WHO and EFSA and contains the right dose of electrolytic minerals such as sodium , potassium and magnesium . Electrolytes have the ability to regulate the volume of water contained in the body. A good dosage of electrolytes in a solution then allows the body to absorb water more efficiently and more quickly and therefore optimize the hydration of the body.

How did we test the effectiveness of Hydratis on hydration?

A precise scientific research method

For 3 consecutive weeks, the Hydratis team came to a Swedish-Fit gym to participate in a weekly "core class" with 20 regular athletes. The core class is a 50-minute session combining muscle strengthening exercises followed by a cardio sequence, all of which stimulates your posture and balance. Our scientific team chose this sport for its high intensity, promoting maximum physical effort.

Each participant in the test then completed a sports session without water intake (which served as a control), then with an intake of 600 mL of water and finally with a quantity of 600 mL of Hydratis solution (to be drunk ideally throughout the session). There was no question of cheating, each group followed a rigorous protocol to guarantee the integrity of the data.

We worked with the Z-Metrix, a bio-impedance meter, recognized by learned societies in nutrition and having a high precision. It is capable of measuring various water parameters in the body:

Total water volume: representing all the water in your body

Extracellular water: Considered the water reserve in your body, it circulates in the tissues and helps in the distribution of nutrients.

Intracellular water: constituting the water contained inside cells, it is crucial for their proper functioning and promotes, for example, the proper functioning of muscles.

Hydratis lozenges hydration results

At the end of the 3 sessions , our scientific team analyzed the results obtained. To do this, we compared the changes in hydration before/after the session of the 3 different scenarios.

And the results are very clear. During high-intensity physical effort, the body sweats a lot, which leads to significant water loss. Water alone did not compensate for these losses and the athletes were in a water deficit after the session.

On the other hand, with the same quantity of Hydratis solution, therefore with a good supply of electrolytes , the athletes maintained or even improved their water level! We even observed a significant growth in intracellular levels which is characterized by better functioning of the cells.

The total water volume increased by more than 1%! Does that seem like a low result to you? Well, it is estimated that a person is dehydrated with only a 2% loss of hydration. In addition, according to scientific studies, a loss of 1% decreases physical and mental performance by 10%!

But how does it work?

The carbohydrates (sugars) and sodium contained in our lozenges will affect the osmolarity of the solution. This is the concentration of active particles in a medium. With one lozenge in 250 mL , you will create a so-called hypotonic solution, i.e. slightly less concentrated than blood. Combining carbohydrates (sugars) and sodium will increase the osmolarity of the intestinal barrier and then of the blood. The solution will then create an osmotic gradient that will promote faster and greater absorption of water into your bloodstream.

Potassium and sodium will then optimize the intra and extra cellular distribution in the body. This will contribute to feeding your cells to optimize their functioning.

A very promising first test

The preliminary results are very encouraging! The improvements in terms of total water volume and water distribution in the body encourage us to continue our research. We asked the participants for their opinion and the feedback is very positive, particularly regarding the improvement in recovery after exercise. In addition, many noted a significant reduction in cramps , a decrease in fatigue and an increase in their energy level , which allows them to maintain optimal performance over a longer period of time. The use of Hydratis tablets is therefore interesting to optimize hydration!
